Each Monday Cathy at Rambling In The Garden encourages us to share a vase highlighting what is growing in our gardens.

In A Vase On Monday – Camellialabra

Grateful to find a few camellias Sunday afternoon I searched through vases for inspiration and found it in the form of a tall glass candlestick. Using a special floral foam adapter that inserts into the candleholder I began arranging a few bits of foliage:  shiny, deep green camellia leaves and fresh light green hellebore leaves. Scavenging from last week’s Monday vase I rescued and reused stems of gaura.

Next I positioned the recently gathered flowers. Most were red Yuletide camellias. There were a couple of pink and cream Hana-Jiman. Twice as many camellias would have been nice but when all were used I was satisfied. The morning, after all, had been below freezing.

Then I glanced over at the Thanksgiving arrangement sitting nearby, made from purchased bouquets.

After nearly two weeks those flowers were still amazingly fresh. From among them I chose a white with pink-accented Alstroemeria to fill out today’s design.

In A Vase On Monday—Anemones and May Night

In A Vase On Monday

In A Vase On Monday

Today again I am joining Cathy for In A Vase On Monday, a weekly challenge to fill a vase using materials gathered from one’s garden.

Anemones have been my favorite flower this spring for indoors and out. Before the Anemones wind down completely I selected a few to fill the colorful multi-stemmed vase my daughter gave me last year.

‘May Night’ Meadow Sage is now fully in bloom in the northern border and it seemed perfect to include this week. While similar in color, the salvia adds height and provides contrasting texture and form.

For an extra punch of color I added a dark magenta cutting from a new Alstroemeria plant purchased last week.

I am a little worried this plant might spread too much so will watch it closely. It is hardy to zone 8 and the garden is zone 7b, so perhaps that will keep the spread in check. Some

Christmas Floral Gifts

Alstroemeria (Peruvian lily), Pine, Holly-3

Our dear friends surprised us yesterday with a Christmas vase of beautiful flowers. They are excellent gardeners who used to live across the street from us on Wave Road but now are across-the country-neighbors living in California.

The vase was filled with Alstroemeria (Peruvian lily), white with yellow and red markings; pine needle bundles and pine cones; and holly leaves and berries; and all tied up with a satiny red bow. Many thanks to these good friends for this thoughtful gift.

We had one other floral gift yesterday from neighbors down the street. I had not bought a poinsettia this year so was delighted to have one to add some traditional Christmas color.

However you may celebrate this time of year, I wish all my dear blogging friends the best of the season. I am honored and grateful each time you stop by to visit pbmGarden.
