The last of the holiday Amaryllis opened overnight, delaying a planned debut of this year’s hellebores. Amaryllis ‘Très Chic’ had already exceeded expectations with it first two stalks before sending up one more.

A dozen robins joined a backyard garden party of cardinals, wrens, mourning doves, towhees a couple of days ago, forming a cheerful reminder spring is on the way. Several days before I counted a half-dozen Red-winged Blackbirds gathering briefly in the redbud tree before continuing on their way.
I had help this year readying the garden—rabbit fencing and the first weeding, cutting back and mulching chores are checked off the list. Daffodils have been pushing through since December. Their buds are finally starting to show. A few spring flowers are on order. How about you?

Those amaryllises are perfect in the vase. Your daughter did a really good job. You are way ahead of me with Spring chores. Our hard freezes killed everything and I will have hours of cutting back all the dead plants. Tonight will be another cold night.

A striking container for an equally striking flower! Spring is well underway here, even if the big show is pending the arrival of my Leucospermums, still in bud. I’m afraid we’re already seeing signs that summer is seeking to overtake spring with temperatures poised to soar this week.

That amphora looks so professional – what a lovely vase to have at your disposal. It works brilliantly with your generous amaryllis. Do you keep the bulbs from year to year?
Thanks Cathy. Yes, she has always had a good sense of craft and style. I will plant the amaryllis bulbs in the garden and see if they make it.
Love it, your daughter is a better ceramicist than I am, how funny. The lavendar is a wonderful contrast to the beautful Amaryllis.
Thanks Amy. She had a great art teacher in high school and created some very strong pieces. The lavender needs some shearing back soon after some winter damage. Usually it recovers.
The foliage on the lavendar looks long..I may not have seen that one…

Yes, my bulb produced 3 stalks, though the third is a bit smaller, but I’m thrilled with it lasting so long.
‘Tres Chic’ looks like a vigorously perennial sort of Amaryllis, although I know that it is a fancier hybrid that I saw in catalogs.
Yes, ‘Tres Chic’ is quite vigorous. I’ve enjoyed it. Will plant outdoors.

Gorgeous Amaryllis Susie. 😃 We are also seeing more birds around the house and garden at last as the days get longer. Barely any signs of growth yet though, but it is mild and sunny today so I will have to check again later! 😃
