I used this angelonia in my vase on Monday and several readers were unfamiliar with it. An annual here, it blooms all summer until first frost without deadheading.

That is a pretty variety. Will have to look for it.
First year growing this particular one. Have you grown them from seed with any luck? I’d like to grow many more plants.
No. I have not tried. Have a major winter cutting flowers experiment going..will see if I can find some.
They are very robust.
They took a while this year to get growing. We had a cold, terribly wet spring and then it just was completely dry and hot.
It’s a wonderful plant. I’d never had great luck with Angelonia until I planted one in a half barrels in my front garden. It apparently gets just the right amount of light and water there so I expect I’ll be adding more 😉
Glad you found a perfect spot! They’re a great way to add color.
That’s a lovely colour. It must love your conditions, because, compared to the small plants that we managed to grow a couple of years back, they are massive and incredibly prolific.
I hadn’t grown this particular kind before. It was from mail-order and it actually didn’t do as well as expected until the weather got cooler in September. I usually buy them from a local nursery and and they take off right away.
Beautiful plant that I’m not familiar with even as an annual. Then again, the info states zone 8 and above which definitely leaves me out. 🙂
Zone 8 must be cold-hardiness, Judy. Seems it would do ok in summer.
It’s interesting to see it in context, Susie. For some reason I was expecting it to be blue which is why I was puzzled about your vase – but perhaps I was thinking of something different altogether! Looks to be a useful annual, flowering for so long
Actually there are blue, purple raspberry and white forms. This raspberry was the only color I could find this year. It is a good performer.
I have had a look to see if seeds are available here, which they are, so perhaps I will give them a try
I’ve never grown it from seed but will check here too. Plants are rather expensive.
Plants of Distinction have seeds of a pretty pink one called Serenita Rose, which they suggest is ideal for a patio pot – not sure if that implies it is best for them not to be grown in the ground?
