Each Monday Cathy at Rambling In The Garden invites us to share a vase of materials gathered from our gardens.
This Ikebana-style design reminds me of flying or dancing.
While Heuchera leaves reach out and stretch away from the vase, an arching piece of spirea sports tiny stems playfully pointing upwards. I had intended to use the white flowers of spirea but removed them on a whim.
A young camellia bud leans forward and up; its fully open counterpart keeps the entire design gently grounded.
Muscari adds texture and balances the deep coral of the camellia.

Stunning. Less is definitely more.
Thank you Linda! It’s hard to resist putting in more, more, more, especially this time of year.
A dancer, definitely a dancer!
I definitely saw dancer as well, Chris!
Nice! It is cool to see grape hyacinth getting some attention. Actually, it seems to be popular this year. Is it popular every year?
Yes, grape hyacinth is something everyone seems to grow.
Yes, I feel there is an arabesque in there somewhere reminding me of a tableau in a ballet. Stunning!
Thanks Noelle. Yes, an arabesque!
You have not only put your vase together in a thoughtful and meditative way, but described the process in a similar fashion, perhaps a symphony as well as a dance. So effective – thanks Susie
Thanks Cathy, that’s lovely–a symphony! I’m happy you liked the vase and the description. It’s nice to have more options in flowers as spring progresses.
A beautiful composition with a well chosen title – you’re such an artist 🙏
Oh, I wish Annette. Thank you!
you are!
I see balance and maybe a hard won success? Well done. Those twisty branches must have been a challenge to get just right?!
I made a few selective cuts on the spirea branches (including cutting off the flowers which seemed very daring). The heuchera is one I pulled up accidentally last week and it sat in a little glass all week looking so perky so I decided it could form the basis of this week’s vase.
Radical! flower removal. The tracery is worth it.
Your arrangements often feel like pieces of art to me, Susie, but that’s particularly true in this case. It captures the impression of flight to a “T”.
Thanks for the encouraging words Kris. I didn’t design the vase to “fly” but it seems to want to.
I think you picked the perfect title for your arrangement Susie. It really does make me think of a dancer, gracefully turning and stretching. It’s beautifully balanced. And the Camellia is gorgeous!
Thanks Cathy for the kind words. The camellia would normally be the main focus with its size and strong color but I think the foliage stars this week. Have a great week and Happy Easter!
So pretty, Susie. A very elegant dancer! 🙂
Thanks so much Eliza!
