As each week begins Cathy at Rambling In The Garden invites us to share a vase of materials gathered from our gardens.
The increasing hours of daylight are a gift that cannot go unremarked. Spring is in the air. Since last Monday one small patch of Tete-a-Tete daffodils opened with conviction, dancing and swaying in the sunlight (yay, there was actual sunshine the past week). I filled the vase with a mass of the solid yellow flowers.
Tips of spiraea branches still in tight bud were used to lighten and lift the design.
Materials
Flowers
Narcissus ‘Tete-a-Tete’ (Tete-a-Tete Daffodil)
Foliage
Spiraea prunifolia (bridal wreath spiraea)
Container
Hand-thrown Seagrove Pottery (olive-artichoke glaze)
Many thanks to Cathy at Rambling In The Garden for hosting and giving us an opportunity to share flower-filled vases across the world. Visit her to discover what garden surprises she and others are offering this week.
A cheerful and elegant display. Can’t wait for my daffs to open.
Thanks Linda! Hope you get to see your own very soon.
What a stylish arrangement, I love how you have used Spirea prunifolia it its just to be go green stage.
Thanks Noelle, I think I like it at least “as much” in this early green form. The spirea is late opening this year, as is everything.
Classically beautiful, love the shapes of the vase and flowers. The S.prunifolia is my favorite Spirea! Happy Spring.
Thanks Amy. Exactly was I was going for–classic. Wish the photos were better. The spirea is sending out dozens of shoots (I guess, forming a colony). Actually thinking of taking it out but our birds love to hide among the branches.
You nailed it! The spirea is kind of a ratty shrub, but I love the flowers and it was in my wedding bouquet!
I need to email a picture of my rabbit fence disaster, you’ll laugh.
Lovely to see all your daffodils Susie. A vase full of sunshine! 😃
Thank you Cathy. I agree and bonus–it is sunshiny here today outside too. Have a good week.
How lucky you are to have vases full of daffodils.
Does feel lucky! A cheery sight for sure. Hope the others decide to open soon. Enjoy your week!
And you have massed blooms today too, Susie! Abundance like this will always make an impact but adding the spiraea really does add little ‘je ne sais quoi’ – and I love the vase. Just so tactile – I would love to cup it in my hands! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much Cathy. The vase belonged to some dear late friends. The wife gave it to me for a present one year soon after we toured many of the local potteries around Seagrove (in North Carolina).
A vase with memories is even nicer to have
When your garden delivers flowers, Susie, it seems to do so by the armful! There’s nothing more cheerful than Narcissus, nor anything that says SPRING quite as clearly. The Spiraea stems were a nice touch too.
This may be the week spring arrives here. 63 and sunny this afternoon and should be nice all week. I need to get busy cleaning up the garden but other errands first.
Oh that vase sings of spring Suzie and must bring a smile to your face when you look at it 😄
Yes, thanks Malc. I’ve placed the daffodils on our mantel and can glance up frequently. You’re right too–I am smiling! Take care!
How wonderful! You are my Sunshine!
Oh thank you, Ricki. We can all use sunshine these days! Take care.
That is the most beautiful arrangement of daffodils I have ever seen in my entire life. Gorgeous!
Thanks so much Judy! They are a real bright spot in our week.
Ooh, such lovely abundance! Such a delight. ❤
Thanks Eliza. The first daffodils of the season are such a welcome sight here. Have a good week.
Spirea is rad! There is not much of it here, and I do not know what Spirea prunifolia is, but the few I see look so elegant, like something from New England.
It’s beautiful in full bloom but not very interesting the rest of the year. Also, non-native.
A bowl of sunshine, you just can’t beat daffodils for shouting out ‘Spring!’ I love the vase too and as always with you, impeccably presented.
Daffodils are irresistibly joyful, aren’t they? Happy Spring Chloris!
So cheerful!
Cheerfulness is a universal reaction to daffodils.
