Hippeastrum
The garden dates to 2001 but I began a garden blog on January 7, 2011, ten years ago. I am rather glad it began not on the day prior, as January 6, 2021 shall live in infamy for the insurrection and mob attacks on the Capitol of the United States of America. On a date which brought such dishonor to this country, in the ensuing years I would feel it pretty insignificant to write about seeds, plants, achievements or goals for my minor little garden. I have read explanations but have never understood what would make anyone support the unqualified, supremely offensive lesser being who was voted to lead America four years ago. That he received more than his own pitiful vote in the 2020 election is a mystery and a sad reflection on the state of this country. America will be dealing with the aftermath of his lies for many years to come.
So I am grateful my blogging anniversary does not fall on January 6. I will concentrate on gardening once more, but I will remember that date.

I have been filled with rage ever since he took office. I… just can’t believe he was ever received even a significant number of votes, much less won an election. He’s stupid, he’s a megalomaniac, he’s corrupt and evil, and considering how incredibly limited his vocabulary is, I think he has dementia on top of all that. Yet he has supporters. People who would give away all of their freedoms with a big dumb smile on their faces, not even realizing what they are doing.
Alicia, it has been an anxious time, waking each day to be dismayed, appalled, stunned by his words and deeds. Amazing what he has gotten away with.
A decade is a long time and your blog (at least for the past six years I have followed) has consistently been a delight. Congratulations. Keep up the good work.

Congratulations on your blog anniversary, Susie! Ten years is quite an accomplishment in my view. You’re almost exactly 2 years ahead of me, although I entirely missed my own anniversary this year, such are the times we live in…
The photos of the emerging Hippeastrum bloom are beautiful. I’m guessing you grow yours inside? All mine are sitting outside where they’ve been woefully slow to get going. I may try moving one or two inside to see what difference it makes.
Thanks Kris. Yes, the hippeastrum was a gift and came pre-planted about mid-December. I placed it on a kitchen counter, added water and presto! It’s opened much more today.

You’re right about yesterday, which I used to think of Epiphany, now will be tarnished forever. The irony is that Trump himself passed a law for violent protesters to be considered terrorists with minimum sentence of 10 years. May justice prevail.
Thank you Eliza! As it continues to open the Hippeastrum has become quite top-heavy. I should have supported it better, but it’s a nice problem to have. Justice often seems hard to come by but we can keep working toward it.
