Happy Halloween

Dahlias From The Garden

Happy Halloween, inspired by pumpkins and peppers from neighbors alongside numerous fading Dahlia ‘David Howard’.

Dahlias From The Garden

These flowers were gathered and photographed two weeks ago. On this last day of October only an odd dahlia here or there is left in the garden, but it was a satisfying year for dahlias.

Next year I hope to try new types and colors. These are the ones grown this year and last.

I love the addition of the peppers, Susie. This is the first year I can remember that I haven’t decorated for Halloween. Next year I hope! Enjoy the holiday!

I don’t actually know what kind of peppers. They weren’t too hot. I roasted and jarred them in olive oil. My neighbors signed up for a weekly agricultural box but couldn’t be home for the first week so we were lucky recipients.

Not familiar with peppers really. In fact I was intimidated to handle them since I wasn’t really sure what kind they were. Turned out to be fairly mild.

Thanks Eliza. I surely have enjoyed them. Last winter was mild and most dahlias overwintered fine. I’m planning to leave them in the ground and add lots of mulch. It’s a risk but I don’t have time to deal with them.

Do you have to lift your dahlias for winter Susie? Happy Halloween! We had clear skies last night and could see the full moon, so it was perfect for the date!

The moon was spectacular this week. Glad your skies were clear so you could enjoy it. Last winter was mild and most dahlias overwintered fine. I’m planning to leave them in the ground again and add lots of mulch.

The dahlias do attract little creatures that I have to lure out, especially the white ones for some reason. They’ve given up for this year but we’re enjoyable. Hop all is well with you.
