Oh my! What an incredible photo and video. Those moths are so hard to photograph as they move so quickly. That first photo needs to be hung on the wall.
Thank you! This is the first year I’ve gotten the opportunity to get so many shots. The iPhone tracks pretty well in video, so I took a lot of images yesterday.
Great images and fantastic video. Coincidentally we were sitting having lunch and watching a Hummingbird Hawk moth on the zinnias in pots by the terrace when your post arrived.
Not long. There were several and, of course, both on the fence side of this huge lantana and I couldn’t get close at first. Once one came over to my side I was able to get lots of images.
So impressed with your photos and video, as these critters are fast moving! I’ve only seen one or two in my garden this year, which makes me a little sad.
Thank you Tina! They really are fast. Hope you’ll begin seeing more in your own garden. The last couple weeks I’ve started seeing lots more butterflies and moths, but it varies wildly from day to day.
Keep looking! I was outside for just 2 minutes before a downpour today and spotted what I think is a spicebush swallowtail. Wish I’d explored a few minutes earlier. Of course, you’re out in your garden all the time.
Thanks Cathy. I searched today but no sign of one. I find it interesting how many times I see something at a particular moment and if I’d gone outside a few minutes later instead I’d have missed it altogether.
What a busy little guy he is and great shots. 🙂
There were a couple of these moths, really working that lantana.

I love the image of you two–bit of serendipity shared from afar! Hi To R.
Did you have to stand in the bushes for a long time to catch these beautiful images?? Lovely.

When I took the pollinator class this summer I spent hours in shrubbery trying to get 3 bee pictures…😀
Wow! These are terrific Susie!!!
Thanks Suzanne! It was such a treat to watch these moths.

It’s such a fascinating creature. Still no sign of any here this year, unfortunately.

Wonderful photos and video. I love the face on shots in the video showing the lovely dramatic markings and antennae.
Thank you! I should sift through the images I took for some more angles.
Beautiful! Isn’t it lovely just watching them. Such amazing little creatures. 😃

What a fabulous little creature. Love the video!
Glad you enjoyed it , Jason.
