In A Vase On Monday – Spring Frills

In A Vase On Monday – Spring Frills

Each Monday Cathy at Rambling In The Garden invites us to share a vase highlighting what is growing in our gardens.

Today’s Ikebana vase is filled with a frilly collection of early spring flowers. Inspired by fragrant Armeria pseudarmeria ‘Ballerina Lilac’ (Thrift) Matthiola incana (Stock -Giant Imperial Blend), I selected mostly companions in blues and purples. The thrift was planted late last fall along with the snapdragons. Nice to see they overwintered well.

In A Vase On Monday – Spring Frills

The garden has been untended the past couple of years but this spring a thick fresh layer of shredded hardwood mulch around the entire house and flower beds revives its promise. I hired someone to help me weed and to dig out some beds full of aggressive thugs. The weeding will need to be continued as signs are everywhere the weeds are not giving up easily. But it feels better for now. The meditation circle is nearly revived, just in time as we stay close to home and send love and wishes of good health to everyone.

I miss teaching yoga, but the wellness center where I teach is posting exercise videos to help members maintain their routines and stay connected. Some of you may enjoy this meditation I prepared.  Unsurprisingly the garden features heavily in it.

In The Garden – Breath and Bodyscan Meditation with Susie
Peaceful morning meditation practice in Susie’s flower garden with nature sounds and singing bowls. Focus on breath, relaxation and sensations in the body.

Thanks to Cathy at Rambling In The Garden for hosting and giving us an opportunity to share flower-filled vases across the world. Visit her to discover what she and others found to place in a vase this week. Good health and peace to you.

Oh Susie, how exciting to have this video from you – to see your face and hear your voice too, of course unlike what I might have imagined 😉 Your meditation is lovely and very similar to one that I recorded and made available to those who attend a monthly reiki share. I have promised to record more. Your early spring flowers are a delight, such a rainbow of colours – are your antirrhinums perennial for you, or do you sow every year? Such perfect spikes! Tour post highlights just why IAVOM is such a joy to be involved in, so thank you Susie

I’ve had antirrhinums last a couple of seasons. I planted them too late (November) to really get enjoyment from them in fall, but now they’re bursting. Haven’t tried them from seeds yet, but I am getting interested in seeds. My sweet peas are a 3-4 inches tall, planted directly into the soil. So happy you enjoyed the video. Hope you’ll share yours sometime. Be well.

They are such tiny seeds and seedlings, but soon put on growth when they are pricked out – I don’t end up with nice pristine spikes like yours though!

Actually I did start seeds too. Just didn’t get them planted and it’s nearly too late. I have a long list of chores!

I love “frilly” as a theme. An excellent idea, a beautiful arrangement, and a word I could really use today. Thank you, I’m so glad I stopped by this morning.

That Iris is absolutely lovely, Susie, as is the entire composition. I enjoyed your guided meditation too – and will save it for use again!

I’m having trouble replying to your comment to me and commenting here – hope this works. Lovely vase (as always – you are so graceful/creative) and adore that iris. What immediately caught my eye was that great header – how did you do it? Now I’m going to watch your video – what a kind thought!

I did try but I got ‘error’ – will go back again this evening and try again. Thanks for the info about the header – so pretty and quirky!

Lovely arrangement, Susie, it looks like a party! Iris ‘Orinoco Flow’ is gorgeous and the color scheme perfect. I enjoyed your meditation – thank you for sharing it. Now I’m all relaxed and ready for bed. 🙂

Iris is exquisite! I thought I recognized it, but I do not know ‘Orinoco Flow’. My hellebores finished blooming quite a while ago, but bearded iris are only beginning to bloom.
