Each Monday Cathy at Rambling In The Garden invites us to share a vase highlighting what is growing in our gardens.
A dreamy creamy Hellebore, one I have featured before, called my attention again this week. This hybrid purchased from Pine Knot Farms in Virginia in 2016 has been magnificent this season.
Now that the plant has been in bloom for a few weeks it is interesting to observe how the early ivory buds open to reveal green at center and on the outermost petals before maturing to delicate green.
Materials
Flowers and Foliage
Helleborus x hybridus (Lenten rose)
Container
Blue ceramic mug with botanical design
Thanks to Cathy at Rambling In The Garden for hosting and giving us an opportunity to share flower-filled vases across the world. Visit her to discover what she and others found to place in a vase this week.
Beautiful! Are the stems long or assisted, somehow, in the vase? (Hellebores around here all seem so squat. )
Thanks Chris. The stems are cut to the ground with several flowers on each stem. I cut the ones that face the back toward my house.
Gorgeous! Hellebores just get better and better as the weeks go by and what wonderful hybrids are around now. This is such a pretty one and perfect in the blue mug.
It is amazing how long-lasting hellebores are and (good from my perspective) carefree.
So dreamy and so creamy! Lovely. What an absolute bonus hellebores are at this time of year when there is little else, apart from the glorious snowdrop and a few other bits and pieces here and there, to give us so much pleasure in the garden. They really are magical plants, and so many different colours and markings. Yours are a joy! Thank you. Amanda https://therunningwave.blogspot.com/2020/02/an-artificial-vase-on-monday.html
Thanks. They do come in at a perfect time when we need some color.
A true beauty and you know what really amazes me is the fact that all flowers are pristine and without blemishes. Light coloured varieties are often more sensitive. And the flowers go very well with your vase too.
Our winter has been fairly mild so perhaps that accounts for their condition.
A beauty!
Isn’t it just! So glad I brought this hellebore home.
Wonderful
There is nothing quite like a big vase of perfect blooms. Your hellebore is a beauty and go so well with your decor and the blue vase and cloth.
Thanks Noelle. The light was so poor inside I took my plant stand outside on the front porch to catch the last natural light. I love our blue front door.
I love to see this dreamy creamy hellebore of yours, Susie – and it never ceases to amaze me how well they last for you, without any conditioning….you must have a magic touch!
Thanks Cathy. Must confess these didn’t hold up as well as earlier hellebores but still enjoyed them.
People have shared all sorts of tips, but we still haven’t a definitive method – perhaps the hellebores are telling us they don’t want to be cut! 😁
I am enjoying your hellebores.
Oh thank you. They’ve kept my spirits high.
Ooh, so pretty! Enjoy all those gorgeous blooms while they last Susie! I have planted a yellow one, but still no buds this year… maybe next year.
Thanks Cathy. Hellebores can take a while to settle in before blooming. The yellow sounds lovely.
Pretty in all its incarnations, Susie!
Thanks, it’s a keeper.
Beautiful blooms, lovely vase, and applause to the photographer.
Many thanks Judy.
What is it about hellebores? Last year, everyone was talking about snowdrops. This year, it is more about hellebores. There are a few that were planted here years ago, but they do not like our climate. It is no something that I would have planted. I might appreciate them more if they looked like yours.
Hellebores are pretty easy to grow here but take some patience. The newer hybrids probably are creating new followers.
That would make sense. Modern cultivars really are compelling.
Oh, my gosh, these are gorgeous, in all stages. Perfect!
Interesting how the hellebores develop and change. Thanks Eliza.
Really beautiful colors!
Thanks Beverly. Subtle shifts in color as they develop really intrigues me.
Gorgeous!
Thanks. Hellebores have been a pleasure this year.
Magnificent is right, well done on all accounts! Hey, how do you get to comment on the blogspot blogs? WordPress seems to have cut me off.
Thanks. Comments on blogspot are really frustrating. Very hit or miss.
It seems to have something to do with a Google profile, I will try updating mine and see if that helps.
Such a beauty, I love that the ivory fades to chartreuse and the flowers are still held as high. I bet when you bought the plant you didn’t suspect you’d someday have enough to cut a handful for the house. I hope your new ones do just as well.
After posting this vase I read all hellebores fade to green as the mature! Will have to research that.
Sweet Hellebores! Love the color!
Thanks. Hellebores have been amazing this winter, this one in particular.
