In A Vase On Monday – Peony Pink

In A Vase on Monday – Peony Pink

Each Monday Cathy at Rambling In The Garden invites us to share an arrangement using materials collected from our gardens.

Today’s vase features a flower advertised by the nursery as Paeonia lactiflora ‘Black Beauty’ (Nightlife Peony). As it lacks the deep rich color burgundy color of the promise, I usually just refer to it as a pink peony.

Lovely in its own right, it stands alone in a crystal bud vase received as a wedding gift (40 years ago this June).

The flower has a slight tinge of brown on one edge, a testament to having survived stormy winds, rains and plunging temperatures the past week.

Congratulations for June – 40 years is very impressive!! I love how you’ve displayed the peony, just right in the classic bud vase.

Thanks, I never realized when I learned the word “decade” it would ever seem useful in referring to myself. Couldn’t quite bring myself to say “4 decades” this morning! Last evening I picked l a range of companions for this peony but they didn’t contribute at all once I started arranging.

Stunning! Using just one bloom in an elegant crystal vase is very effective. Will you be celebrating your anniversary in any way?

Thanks Cathy, the peony would have been lost with the others flowers I’d originally gathered to go with it. We have no big plans but am sure we will find a special way to celebrate.

The alcove is the perfect place to display this simple peony in a crystal vase – it rightly needs no further embellishment, as a number of us have discovered today when faced with greater abundace in our gardens. Congratulations on 40 years together, no mean accomplishment.

The little niche is in our foyer, probably one of the reasons I loved the house when we first viewed it. Thanks for the good wishes for our upcoming anniversary.

That peony bloom may be a storm survivor but its beauty is unimpaired. You couldn’t have found a better way to let that beauty shine than placing it in a special vase in that alcove.

Peonies are one of those flowers that have such presence–it’s hard to do justice to their beauty. How can 40 years seem like no time at all?

Not burgundy but very lovely and splendid on it’s own displayed like this. Congratulations, I hope you will be doing something special to celebrate.

Thanks Alison, we still have a few weeks to formulate a plan to celebrate. Fortieth anniversary is ruby–maybe my husband would enjoy a red peony!
