In A Vase On Monday – Four For Fourth
Each Monday brings the chance to join Cathy’s In A Vase On Monday to share an arrangement using materials gathered from the garden.
Each July Fourth America celebrates Independence Day, acknowledging the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Eschewing classic red, white and blues I opted for subtler, yet still bold, variations of the traditional colors. In several attempts I could not get reality aligned with my design ideas, so I ended up with four very different arrangements.
The shasta daisies are the fourth effort and my favorite. Creating this simple grouping was made easy using the colorful multi-stemmed vase.

The third try was a loose display of purple coneflowers, Blue Sky salvia, red dahlia, shasta daisies, and starring a lovely lavender gladiolus.

The second vase was composed of two coral gladioli among two hydrangea blooms. I liked this one also.

The first arrangement of gladioli, phlox, hydrangea and Blue Sky salvia was more formal.

Echinacea purpurea (Purple Coneflower)
Gladiolus
Hydrangea macrophylla
Leucanthemum x superbum (Shasta Daisy)
Phlox paniculata (Garden Phlox)
Salvia guaranitica ‘Black and Blue’
Salvia uliginosa ‘Blue Sky’ (Bog sage)

Lovely arrangements for your special day, I think I like the Hydrangea with the Gladiolus the best but they are all beautiful. I hope you and David have a happy celebration. I love your multi stemmed vases, I still haven’t found any but one day I will!

Thanks, The coneflowers have been great this year. They often die back before I can worry about dead-heading but this year I’m going to try to keep them going.

That’s the way to do it if we can’t decide what to cut – just make four vases! I so enjoy seeing your multi vase, so that will always be a winner but I love the blend of shades in the second one. Thanks for sharing

Thanks Donna. I never tire of the glads. Many more planted recently that are growing well so I expect there will be more colorful vases.

All the arrangements are glorious, Susie, although the third one may be my own favorite. I saw a vase very similar to your multi-stemmed one at a show recently and thought of you – you always make such good use of it. Best wishes for a very happy 4th!

It’s Aster Yellows. I suppose at some point I may try them again, though right now I have no space for them.

I like that one too Cathy. I’ve seen that vase sold in a museum shop in other brighter colors and also in an all-white version, but I like the colors on mine best. They match almost any flower.

I missed this on July 4 but really enjoyed finding it today. I love the daisies, always so cheery.
