Garden Bloggers Foliage Day – March 2016

The 22nd of each month is Garden Bloggers Foliage Day (GBFD) hosted by  Christina at Garden of the Hesperides.

Spring arrived officially this week and today’s photos, taken March 19, reveal the season is well underway. I thought Brunnera macrophylla ‘Silver Heart’ was lost after last summer’s extreme heat so was happy to see these brightly-patterned leaves.

What a pleasure to discover the fresh leaves of emerging plants or watch the evergreen ones recover from the harsh conditions of winter. Here are a few glimpses of the late March foliage.

Thanks to Christina at Garden of the Hesperides for hosting. (She may be away this month.)

Thanks for joining in GBFD today; I’m a bit late posting today but I’ll try to post later this afternoon. Your Brunnera macrophylla ‘Silver Heart’ is fabulous, I’m glad you didn’t lose it.

Your Brunnera is beautiful, mine is now seeding around which is nice. It is good when the garden wakes up again after winter, new foliage is very welcome.

Oh, that’s a shame about the slugs. Hoping this one will last a few weeks at least. Voles seem to be thriving better than ever here this year.

Yes, some of the plants are moving fast. Was expecting columbine to bloom but it’s holding back. Have seen it flowering nearby already. I think I first saw Brunnera on your blog. Hope I can keep it alive this year.

True, it’s great to see all the emerging shoots holding so much promise for the year ahead. Do you also find the variegated Euphorbia to be of weaker growth?

Annette, I wasn’t impressed with that Euphorbia last year, which is when I added it to the garden, but already this year it seems stronger. I’ll have to watch how it does this year.

Things are so far along in your garden, it looks downright lush! After killing my variegated euphorbias I should move on to the brunnera. If they can survive the heat and drought you had then they might be a perfect plant for here!
