In A Vase On Monday—White and Blue

In A Vase On Monday – White and Blue

Monday brings the chance to share cut flowers from the garden by joining in Cathy’s weekly challenge In A Vase On Monday.

My cyclamen houseplants are in full bloom. For several days the flowers on one particular plant kept wilting, so I decided to cut all of its blooms to use for an arrangement. First, to restore their turgidty and prepare them for use, I placed the cut stems into a cup of water for a few hours.

Later I noticed the rejuvenated white flowers looked very pleasing in the blue ceramic mug. Unconsciously I had grabbed a container that highlighted them well, so I decided to enjoy them just as they were.

I love the cyclamen in the pretty blue mug, Susie! The flowers always look fancy to me but the simple mug grounds them nicely. Last year, I had a few cyclamen reappear around this time but I’ve yet to see any sign of them this year.

Kris, I agree the flowers do look fancy (like orchids to me). Are your cyclamen outdoors? Hope they will flower again for you. I’ve only tried them indoors, where they started blooming again about October. The first time I bought a cyclamen I threw it out when the flowers were done! Not sure how I learned they’d bloom again.

White Cyclamen say Christmas to me far more that the ubiquitous Poinsettia. What a happy accident that they took so beautifully to the jug you chose for plonking.

Hi Ricki. We had a guest over after I put the flowers in the mug to condition and while he was visiting my eyes kept returning to the vase on the counter, until I realized they were done! I decided to invest in some more cyclamen for this holiday. They will continue to bloom much of the year, unlike poinsettias.

This vase was practically effortless. Haven’t done much Christmas decorating–keeping everything simple. Hope you and R. have a wonderful holiday.

Soft and gentle display with lovely combination of white flowers and a blue vase – absolutely beautiful. Cyclamen are such fascinating plants with their petals flowing back and they look so good in close up pics. Thanks
