Today again I am joining Cathy for In A Vase On Monday, a weekly challenge to fill a vase using materials gathered from one’s garden.
Anemones have been my favorite flower this spring for indoors and out. Before the Anemones wind down completely I selected a few to fill the colorful multi-stemmed vase my daughter gave me last year.
‘May Night’ Meadow Sage is now fully in bloom in the northern border and it seemed perfect to include this week. While similar in color, the salvia adds height and provides contrasting texture and form.
For an extra punch of color I added a dark magenta cutting from a new Alstroemeria plant purchased last week.
I am a little worried this plant might spread too much so will watch it closely. It is hardy to zone 8 and the garden is zone 7b, so perhaps that will keep the spread in check. Some

Alstroemeria x ‘Tesmach’ (Inticancha® Machu Peruvian Lily) with Lavandula x intermedia ‘Dutch’ (Dutch Lavender)
Materials
Anemone coronaria ‘Bride’
Anemone coronaria ‘Mr. Fokker’
Alstroemeria x ‘Tesmach’ (Inticancha Machu Peruvian Lily)
Salvia nemorosa ‘May Night’ (Hardy Sage, Meadow Sage))
Many thanks to Cathy at Rambling In The Garden for hosting. Please visit her to see what she and others are placing In A Vase On Monday.
Mr Fokker has become my favourite Anemone, ousting Sylphide! I think this is also my favourite vase, your daughter chose very well. The Alstroemeria gives the perfect kick to the colour scheme.
Well now, that is something! Sylphide is lovely also but I have always found blue flowers irresistible. This little vase is fun and quick to use and is so versatile. It works for just a couple of stems or a larger collection.
Beautiful. What a great vase.
Thanks Cindy. The vase makes it simple to display flowers.
Great color combo.
Thanks Marian. I think the Alstroemeria keeps this from being too predictable.
I love the striking colors of the beautiful flowers against the softer colors of the vases. Beautiful. 🙂
Thank you Judy. The colors in the vase seem to work with almost every flower I tried.
I have thought about buying that vase!! Too funny!! Looks as good as I imagined. My “monday in a vase” from last week….the store mentioned carries that exact vase but also in white…and green colors I believe. See it here:

I’ve started seeing this vase in several shops. It’s quite versatile.
I love these bottles and all the deep rich colors you added to them….I don’t have many anemones, but I just spotted a few popping out yesterday.
The vase is all one piece Donna–very convenient. This is my first year growing anemones and I’ve been surprised at how long they’ve bloomed.
Will your beautiful neighborhood have a garden tour again this year? If so, may I come?
You’re always welcome to come by here, but unfortunately the committee couldn’t get anyone to organize a garden tour this year.
Interesting vase, it makes your presentation so eye catching.
Hi Charlie, the vase is very useful. Makes it easy to put together an arrangement very quickly.
I hope the Alstroemeria does well for you, Susie. My own blue Anemones are but a distant memory so it’s great to see yours. And I love that vase!
Thanks so much Kris. I’m excited to try Alstroemeria.
Wonderful vase again Susie! This collection of little vases is such a lovely idea and you have used it perfectly – love those anemones as the focus and the pink Alstroemeria for a splash of colour to lighten it up. Gorgeous – one of my favourites of your vases this year!
Cathy, you always brighten my day with your generous comments. I like this vase a lot too and it went together rather quickly.
Delightful, I love anemones. The Salvia is a perfect match.
I’m glad to see the saliva blooming. Each year I bring it inside once or twice but its fragrance is a bit pungent.
Beautiful arrangement – love the anemones and the salvia. The vase is the perfect foil for your choice of flowers too – a lovely gift from your daughter.
Hi Elizabeth. Thanks very much. My daughter really surprised me when she sent this vase. She always chooses interesting pieces.
Your arrangements and your photography are always stylish and this one is really lovely too Susie, I really like the colour, shape and texture combinations.
I appreciate your kind praise Julie. Photographing these arrangements has been a good learning experience (and is ever ongoing!).
Mr Fokker is my favourite anemone – I just can’t get enough of that blue! Your arrangement look s so good displayed in that ‘vase’ Susie – I really must get mine out of the cupboard and into use before all the spring flowers disappear. I am very jealous of your salvia – another favourite but I won’t have any flowers for a few weeks yet.
The blue in that anemone is hard to resist Julie. Yes, do use your vase soon–I think you’ll love how accommodating it is to whatever flowers you’ve chosen for it. In the border the salvia is at its best, but it never seems to last long enough.
I’ve been admiring several versions of these little all-in-one collections of small vases. Nice way to showcase a variety of stems. Lovely!
The anemone are gorgeous! That arrangement suits them perfectly.
Thank you. I’ve enjoyed the anemones so much this spring.
So simple and yet so stylish and I adore anemones. I have just planted a dozen corms/bulbs(?) of ‘Sylphide’ at my allotment for hopefully cutting later this year. I found arranging and photographing harder than it looks and I’m so impressed by everyone who posts a vase regularly. I guess the upside is that we all get to enjoy our vases in our homes for a while.
Thanks Sarah. Photographing the arrangements is especially challenging sometimes. Most weeks I spend more time on that than on actually arranging the flowers.
