This morning the yellow, reblooming iris has opened adding a bright cheeriness to the small island in the southwest corner of the garden.
Until a better home could be found for them, these passalongs were planted here temporarily last fall in what was planned to be a part-shade garden. The maple that was providing the shade had to be removed as it was getting too large and its roots were spreading too far and wide. I need to give some thought to what to do with this island bed now that it is sunny again. This could be a fun little area to plant and the iris seems to like it.
I’m officially jealous. 🙂 I have one reblooming iris (Harvest of Memories, I believe that’s what you have) and it’s not reblooming for me. Too overshadowed by other things in the garden at this time of year I think.
Lovely to see an iris blooming this time of year. To me they are truly the queen of flowers.
Some plants that have been bred to rebloom feel out of place to me, but this time of year seems to suit the irises. Thanks for providing the name–I’ll look up Harvest of Memories and check it out.
What a lovely colour your iris is and to have it reblooming too is such a bonus. I must try and find some that rebloom as they would be a good addition to the late summer border.
The color is a bit unexpected for this time of year, softer than most yellows one sees. I’m so pleased this pass-along iris turned out to be a reblooming one–a nice surprise.
Bearded iris are my favorite…I love the photos, the richness of the color and the detail is really superb.
Thanks for the encouragement Charlie. The light was not very strong this morning so I discarded many, many pictures. Bearded iris are very photogenic though.
Gorgeous Iris – I can almost smell it. 🙂
I didn’t notice a fragrance Judy but I will make a point to double-check.
WordPress just lost my comment Susie, anyway I was saying that my yellow Iris also rebloomed recently. You captured the moment beautifully.
Isn’t it a great treat to see irises again before the season changes? Do you have many reblooming ones?
Sadly I don’t I should look for more.
Mmmm, looks like it should smell of lemons! Such a lovely cheerful colour!
It does look lemony, doesn’t it? I need to check the fragrance–didn’t notice one when I was taking pictures.
I love these rebloomers. Yours is beautiful.
Yes, now I’m thinking I might need some more reblooming iris.
Just lovely. Hope you find the perfect spot for them. CheersQ
Thanks Benjamin. Finding room somewhere is always a problem.
I used to have a yellow iris called Sunny Delight. It was a signature flower for me. Your yellow iris makes my heart sing. One day when you divide, I hope you’ll save one for me. Beautiful!
A signature flower named Sunny Delight fits you perfectly Stepheny! Will be happy to share this iris.
What a pretty garden surprise! Beautiful color.
Yes, the yellow iris really was a nice surprise as I didn’t know it was a rebloomer.
Looks great! At this time of year it’s always so nice to have a freshly opened flower to brighten up a tired border (or at least that’s how some of mine seem this weekend).
It’s been very dry again here the last two weeks so I am hoping for rain to keep the flowers coming for a few more weeks.
And when you thought the season is over…. Such a bright, lovely color.
I’d love to have iris season be year-round.
I adore bearded iris, but mine don’t rebloom because of the cool weather we have…I love that yours does rebloom.
