I spent a long weekend at the North Carolina coast for a reunion with some special college friends. We had a happy time catching up with each other. From our beautiful sound-side location, the views from every direction were scenic and peaceful.
While I was away there was quite a lot of rain in Chapel Hill. I took a quick walk throughout my garden upon my return home, but mosquitoes quickly drove me back inside this afternoon. Zinnias, cleome, lantana and a few echinacea continue to provide summer color.
If you can, send a little of that rain up here. I can barely recognize all that green stuff on the ground in your picture!
I’ll see what I can do about passing along some rain. Hope you get some soon as I know how frustrating it can be for things to dry up.
It is one of the joys in life–a week at the beach with friends. All a gardener needs is a reliable pot waterer. Enjoy the memories.
Thanks John, yes the beach with friends is a special recipe.
Stunning views, is the white bird an egret or a heron? I’m sure you had a wonderful time catching up with your friends.
Pauline, I think this is an egret. We also had lots of ibis coming right up in the back yard (and several rabbits for some reason).
A week in at the beach with old friends is one of life’s greatest pleasures!
Post some cleome pics soon? I love that flower!
A special request for cleome? Thanks. I love it too–such a complex plant. I’ll post some if I can find some that haven’t been damaged by the rains.
Looks like a lovely peaceful time…we are getting rain for the next couple of days.
Hope you get just the right amount of rain Donna. After such a dry summer, recently we’ve had heavy monsoons.
Sounds a lovely way to spend a holiday and to have some rain at home a blessing!
Yes, it’s true. The ocean is so restorative and it was great to get to see old friends.
We’ve been getting lots or rain the last two days and it looks like we may get some more. That area along the coast looks beautiful, I had somehow gotten the impression that the NC coast had been overdeveloped.
North Carolina does have beautiful beaches, but don’t tell anyone. There certainly has been overdevelopment.
