Wordless Wednesday—First Columbine

Native Aquilegia canadensis (Eastern red columbine) is growing nestled against the foundation and lots of other more appropriate places. This is the first one to open this spring.

Yours are flowering before mine, but I noticed yesterday that the buds have formed so it won’t be long. It would be a shame to thin yours out if it has found a place it loves.

The columbine are in various stages this week, but a few sprang right up once the warm weather came. Mine have spread far and wide this year, so let me know if you can use some.
