Zinnia With Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus)
A welcome drop in humidity cleared the haze from the sky and made the early morning air feel refreshingly cool.
We watched sections of the borders emerge from morning shadows as we lingered over coffee on the screened porch that overlooks the garden. Sunlight entering the garden spaces framed colorful vignettes. Wind chimes in the meditation circle repeatedly picked up the gentle breeze, echoing sweet tones.
Zinnias in the northwest corner continue to attract butterflies.

A white bearded Iris rebloomed this week bringing an unexpected treat.

I spent the past four years reshaping my garden to attract butterfly’s, it is so amazing when it begins to happen, when they start to visit each day. There are several Western Yellow Swallowtail butterflies that now frequent my garden…I really love your photos.

The butterflies are so colourful, such a treat when they visit you. Lucky you with the Iris flowering again, like the ones that are your header, I love them.
Hi Christina, I would like to add some more Irises that will rebloom. So far this is the only one. It does indeed look like the ones in the header photo, so don’t know why the others aren’t blooming as well. They were passed-along so I can’t be sure what kind they are.
I also love those deep sky blue mornings. The butterflies look great and they sure make a nice picture in amongst the zinnias. Your garden still looks so nice and fresh even in August, it’s a pleasure to look at, thanks!
Thanks for your nice comments. It’s been nice this year. The garden is normally brown and crispy by now but with all the rain this summer things have kept going.

Lovely zinnia and iris. I think there are more of the Eastern tiger swallowtail this year than anything else but I’m not complaining. I love to see two of them in one photo; it’s hard to catch that moment.
Thanks for pointing out the two in one photo–I really liked that one also. Yesterday I followed around a dark blue morph but couldn’t get a decent picture at all.
