I think Monarchs are such beautiful butterflies, one was seen on the south coast of England this year and caused quite a stir! I am planting milkweed in case any more get blown across the Atlantic in future!
Cathy, I usually see a few monarchs, but there are more this year and they are here later than in past years. The last labelled pictures I can even find of monarchs in my garden are from August 2006! The monarchs like the zinnias too.
I think this Monarch is loading up for a long flight to Mexico. I’m glad they found food in your garden at this time of year.
Yes, and although they’re fun to watch I they won’t linger here too long.

Wow, that’s interesting Pauline. I usually have a native species of milkweed Asclepias tuberosa (Butterfly weed), but it didn’t come back this year.
Lovely photos again. How long do they stay? Since you have so many blooms still, I suppose they are around till late in the year…
