On a whim I purchased a flat of thyme today to use in the meditation garden, but am not sure it is correctly labeled.
The tag says thyme, silver edge and Thymus x citriodorus. The tag does not call this Lemon Thyme but online references do. They also mention the fragrant lemony smell but these plants do not seem particularly fragrant and definitely are not lemony. As for the name ‘silver edge,’ the leaves do not seem to have a silvery edge. Eventually I did find a nursery selling it under this name so perhaps it is indeed correct. The tag indicates it will form a 9-12-inch mound which should be lovely along the garden paths.
It looks healthy whatever kind it may be! I love picking it to use fresh and at the end of the season, I cut lots off to dry to use during the winter.
I’ll have to try collecting some of the thyme this year as I love to cook with it.
